Group Evaluation!

What roles did you take on for this assignment?
My roles throughout this assignment were to answer questions 2 and 4. I also had to create the handouts.

What did you like about working in a group?
I enjoyed working as a team very much. It was great to hear a variety of different ideas for the assignment. I also liked working in a group because i did not have to do the work all by myself. Each person had to do something, this made the assignment so much easier.

What was difficult about working in a group?
Choosing something that everyone agreed with. We all had different ideas about what we should do for the presentation, choosing just one was difficult because we had to choose something that we all wanted. Also if someone was away, the rest of the group could not do much discussions as we would not know where that person was up to in their part of the assignment.

What did you learn about working in a group?
I have learnt that team work is very important, because not only do others rely on you to do your bit but in order to complete the assignment you have to work together. I have learnt that everyone has to contribute to the assignment otherwise it is unfair to the rest of the group.

Did everyone contribute equally and enthusiastically?
Everyone in my group did contribute. We all divided the assignment up so that each person did what they wanted to do. I do think that we should ave divided it up equally though, i think that some people were do much more work than others.

How well did you work as an individual?
I think that i worked well as an individual because i got involved in the group discussion. I did do my part of the assignment, i have continuously posted comments on my blog and have done my research, as well as the assignments. I did not have any disagreements with my other group members and had considered all ideas.

Identify your strenghts and weaknesses.
As a group member i think that i should work on my time management skills. I do admit that i have left things close to the last minute.
I do think that i was the person who kept the group on track. whenever someone needed help i would help them.

Outline suggestions to improve your approach to group work.
next time i shall try harder to get my work done as fast as possible so we are not rushing everything at the end or a couple more days before the assignment is due.
i shall also try no to be as bossy, and will not take the lead.

Discussion

today we discussed who was doing what. I have given jessica my answer to question four. unfortunatley the answer to question one had been lost so matilda had to rewrite the answer, so that jessica can complete the powerpoint before thursday. today is our final in class computer lesson, so we must use this time wisely.

HANDOUTS_3

today i have finally completed the handouts. I now need to print out the sheets. I have also finished coping out the stuff for jessica. matilda and jennifer have also finished their parts today so hopefully we will get time to work together as a group and practice on the presentation.

today we got together as a group during class time and decided to give jessica our information today. jessica will get the pictures as she is creating the powerpoint. i need to print out the find-a-word out soon. I will make a copy for myself where i can see  all the answers, so we can go through the answers with the class.

research

today i gathered some information on the skin as it is also part of the excretory system. i also needed to find the definition of metabolic wastes. which is just wastes that the body does not need. These wastes are left over from respiration processes. i need to have a hard copy of question four tomorrow so that jessica can work on the powerpoint.

today i have almost completed the find-a-word. i now just have to fill in the blanks. I have also copied my information for Jessica tomorrow as she requires the information to do the PowerPoint.

Yesterday i had started to make the handouts which shall be given to class to complete. Unfortunately i had forgotten to blog this. so i have blogged it today. I have not finished the handouts but plan to complete it today.

RESEARCH: Question four (EXTRA)

smoking-also causes cancer to the lungs making it hard to breath in oxygen and out carbon dioxide.
meat: to much consumed meat can lead to pressure on the excretory system.
alcohol: to much alcohol makes the kidneys work over time when trying to remove toxins within the alcohol.
lack of water: without water the toxins would not be removed from the body and the system would not be nourished and will not work properly.
lack of exercise: without exercise fresh, highly oxygenated blood would not be transported to the major organs in the system. Toxins will not be excreted along with the persons sweat.
unhealthy diet: system will not receive the essential minerals, vitamins and energy needed to help the systems main organs function properly. Fast food, processed foods, empty calories and junk foods tend to stop the system working properly. They contain preservatives and additives, which makes the system work extra hard in order to process the food.
too much toxins: the more toxins within the body, the more work too be done by the excretory system. Toxins enter the body through drugs, alcohol and smoking.
body products: when products are slathered onto the body they may enter the blood stream which must then be processed by the liver.

RESEARCH: OUESTION FOUR

BAD HABITS.

• smoking-leads to high blood pressure. HIgh blood pressure eventually leads to kidney damage.
• lack of fluids- means that toxins are less likey to be excreted from the body meaning a build up of toxins in urine. this build up can cause crystals to form. If the crysatls remain in the kidney they can attract other elements which will form into a small hard object known as stones. passing a kidney stone is a very painful experience and depending on the stones size it may require surgery to be removed from the body.
• smoking- the smoke may reduce the livers efficnecy to detoxify chemicals within the body.

DISCUSSION!

today we have decided that matilda will do question 2. Jessica will do question 5 and 7. jennifer will  do question 6. While i do question 4. We have now changed our presentation to a powerpoint as it is much easier. our handout will be a find a word which i will create. Jessica has offered to do the powerpoint. We have decided that each person will do a specific question as we are running out of time and need to work on our presentation as a group. It also saves us from doing any extra work.

what parts make up the system?
today i found a really good diagram for the excretory system. It is a type of diagram where you roll over the picture to get more information. It shows the main parts of the excretory system and what each part is needed for:

kidneys: cleans the blood of waste products. the waste is removed from the body through urine.

ureter: thin tubes which transport the urine from each kidney to the bladder

bladder: a compartment in the lower part of the body. the bladder is where urine is stored until ready to be disposed.

urethra: urine is transported to the urethra from the bladder, when being excreted.

Why do we need it?
The excretory system:
-collects water and cleanses body fluids
-removes and collects waste products from the body's fluids
-returns specific substances to body fluids as its essential for homeostasis


HOMEOSTASIS-(in this case) means: having a balanced diet in order to have healthy kidneys.

PRESENTATION WORK...

as a group we have decided to use wix.com for our presentation.
matilda was supposed to answer question one and place the information on the site.
today i went onto the site to make sure that everything matilda did was there. Sadly there is nothing else on our site. The next time we meet up as a group we need to discuss what we should put on the site.

Why do we need the excretory system??
The excretory system is one of the most important systems that our bodies require. The excretory system is responsible for the removal of wastes produced by the body. In order for our bodies to be healthy these wastes must be removed or excreted. Though the system is very important, the system is also very small.

The liquid wastes are often known as urine.
 Urine is the result of the excretory system balancing out the amount of salts and water in your body.

Today we were given time in the school library to work together as a group on our presentation.
As a group we have decided to:

• Use wix.com as it provides a lot of useful features. 
• Matilda will answer question one.
• To include some animations and widgets on our website. To make the topic and presentation more interesting.
• Everyone will gather as much information as possible for each question. Then we shall put together all of our research on the website.

I am in group six. There are four members in my group: Matilda Sadek, Jennifer Lahoud, Jessica Webeck and myself. The topic that we are study is the excretory system. The excretory system is basically when the body disposes of wastes in the form of solids, liquids and gases.
